SSC has several ground based instruments at Esrange Space Center used for the support of sounding rocket and balloon experiments for Atmospheric, Ionospheric and Magnetospheric research. These instruments are primarily designed for real time use during campaigns.
The data from the instruments are fused to the EGIS system, a multi-instrument network system for handling of live and archived geophysical data. EGiS is accessible over the Esrange LAN or the Internet.
Data collection and archiving starts one month before the actual beginning of a campaign, or on time periods specified by user. Usually data is archived during campaign periods, on user request other archiving time periods are accommodated.
Two other major scientific facilities are located near Esrange. IRF, the Swedish Institute of Space Physics is a centre for studies of the magnetosphere and EISCAT (European Incoherent Scatter Facility) is another international association with a receiving station for Ionospheric data. Cooperation with these scientific institutions can offer good opportunities for coordinated studies and exchange of scientific data.
